IDAHO video documentary

Manchester film student produces anti-homophobia film

IDAHO video documentary

Thursday, 19 April 2007

A Film Production student at Manchester Metropolitan University has produced a documentary video to help highlight the fact that the vast majority of the world's lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans population live in fear of arrest - and many even in fear of their lives. The video has been produced to coincide with IDAHO 2007, the International Day Against Homophobia event being held on the 17th of May.

Jack Tomkins produced the video with two colleagues - Alex Thomson and John Hull. They explore some of the issues around the gay community being treated as criminals in many countries, and highlight the problems that asylum seekers have when fleeing to the UK to escape prison or death sentences overseas.

It's well worth a watch and can be viewed directly through the IDAHO website.

A 30 minute extended version of the documentary will be released closer to 17th May to further highlight the response of Manchester's Queer community in supporting human rights for LGBTQ refugees and asylum seekers.
