Brighton's best...

Brighton it ain't!...
review Need a break from the the uber-trendy, laid-back attitude in Brighton? Looking to get away from the chic labelqueens you meet every day? Then try Blackpool! Before we set off we looked for advice on the web to see what the city had to offer. The first line of the first review that we came across read, “Brighton, it isn't", which then became our catchphrase of the weekend… If you can face six hours squashed in a car crawling around the M25 during the Friday evening rush as everyone tries to get away, then give it a go! I'm making it sound like you shouldn't bother, but actually the place has a certain kitsch charm that, if you roll with it, can result in a great weekend! Our hotel (just £20 a night) was right in the heart of gay Blackpool, close to the many bars, including the famous Flying Handbag and Blackpool's main gay club Flamingos (£2 entry). Like the Revenge of the north, we danced away the night, steadily getting more pissed on all the cheap drinks. In fact everywhere was very cheap… apart, that is, from the Blackpool tower at a steep £12… but luckily for us it was closed due to high winds so we had more money for more drinks. The highlight of the weekend was a visit to Funny Girls (entry £6), an excellent cabaret show, unique to Blackpool with chorus numbers spread throughout the evening. With brilliantly choreographed routines, mixing together big West End show numbers and with laugh-out-loud comedy moments, it was well worth the money, and something I feel would work very well down in Brighton. Make sure you put it on your list of things to do the next time you're passing.
